Gumball 3000 rally 4th destination: Atlanta
On May 27, Gumball 3000 is taking off on its North American tour—and it’s going to be awesome. It all starts in T-Dot and from there, the 100+ celebrity drivers will take their supercars south of the border, winding through key American cities until reaching the final destination: Miami, Florida. It’s going to be the road trip of a lifetime, and Atlanta, Georgia is the fourth stop on the tour.
This will be the second time that Gumball 3000 rolls into Atlanta. In its 2014 North American-Euro trip, the rally stopped in Atlanta after taking off in Miami, using Centennial Olympic Park as a meeting ground. Unfortunately, the weather impacted many of the outdoor events that night, so we’re hoping for clear skies for the 2022 edition of Gumball 3000 Atlanta. If you plan to be there in person, make sure to arrive in style no later than May 31.

ABOUT ATLANTA
Civil War and Civil Rights, Atlanta is at the center of some of the greatest leaders (the birthplace of Martin Luther King, Jr.) and moments in American history. The city was founded in 1837 as a railway center called “Terminus,” and was renamed Atlanta in 1845 after the Western and Atlantic railway that ran through it.
Ironic that it would come to house the one of the busiest airports in the world, the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. At 4,700 acres, Hartsfield makes Atlanta a prime spot for tourism and an international hub for health care, business, arts, and culture.
The city is now large enough to house three major sports teams – the Atlanta Hawks (NBA), Atlanta Braves (MLB), and Atlanta Falcons (NFL), several popular TV shows and an untouchable hip hop music scene.
The New York Times called Atlanta “hip-hop’s center of gravity.” and when you checkout this hitlist of artists it’s easy to see why: Ludacris, Usher, Ciara, Jeezy, T.I., Gucci Mane, Lil’ Jon, Lil Yachty, 21 Savage, Donald Glover/Childish Gambino, Outkast and Soulja Boy.
Culture, music; Real Housewives, they call it “Hotlanta” for a reason.
ATLANTA LIFESTYLE & LEISURE
Top Restaurants in Atlanta
Considered by many to be the foodie capital of the American South, Atlanta has a long history of serving up delicious comfort foods, like fried chicken, meat-with-sides dishes, and BBQ’d anything. While the traditional culinary options will always be a staple here, a greater variety has emerged on the food scene in recent times. Now you can find a restaurant that meets any food craving you can have, with restaurants specializing in anything from burgers to oysters, Japanese, farm-to-table fare, fusion, Indian food—and the list goes on.
After a long day of driving, Gumballers are going to be in the mood for an extravagant meal in the evening, and you’ll find Mount Royal on 3301 Lenox in Midtown. This restaurant is modelled after a Montreal-style steakhouse and run by chef Hugh Scheson. The meat-heavy combinations of French-Canadian dishes, like meat pies with minced pork, accompanied by prime rib, make this spot a meat-lover’s haven. Fill up on protein before hitting up the bars and nightclubs.
Make sure you grab some business-casual attire if you want to try the upscale steakhouse, Bones on 3130 Piedmont. Known as the in spot for Atlanta’s movers and shakers since 1979, this steakhouse has earned the reputation by being the best steakhouse in America 16 years running. Prime beef, fresh seafood, and Maine lobster served along with regional specialties from Southern roots.
After a night of over-indulgence, a good breakfast joint is essential—especially if you’re heading to Miami afterwards. Head over to Red Eyed Mule on 430 South Marietta in the South Marietta Parkway. Chicken and waffles, corn beef hash, bacon and eggs and unlimited coffee—a good greasy breakfast can help get you through a hazy morning. You can also grab a breakfast sandwich on the go, for those who are headed south to the next leg of the Gumball mission.
Top Nightclubs in Atlanta
Heading out to a bar for drinks is the standard for a night out in Atlanta, and the options keep getting bigger and better. The Illuminarium is a pretty unique outing, as the bar runs an immersive light show with wall-to-wall projections. You could find yourself in downtown Tokyo, or in a lush rainforest depending on what’s scheduled for the night. There’s plenty of room for hanging out with your crew and throwing back some cocktails in the Illuminarium bar; small dishes are also on the menu.
The best night club option in Atlanta is Havana Club, which has been open since 1996. This club has three different rooms and regularly features a mix of top 40s and Latin beats. Bottle service is available for the full VIP experience. For a more relaxed night out, you can head to Sutra Lounge on Crescent Avenue NE.
Best Fashion & Shopping in Atlanta
For high-end shopping in Atlanta, head to Buckhead where you’ll find both Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza. Lenox Square is the third-biggest mall in Georgia and is the only place in the region to shop for Diesel, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, G-Star Raw, Tesla Motors, Prada, Rolex, and more. The major department stores here are Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and Neiman Marcus.
Phipps Plaza is a sister mall to Lennox Square owned by the same company and it’s just a three-minute drive from Lenox at the Peachtree Road and Lenox Road intersection. Here, among the mahogany walls and marble floors, you’ll find a Nordstrom, which has in-store services like personal stylists and alterations, plus a Saks Fifth Avenue. It’s also the only place in the area with a Valentino and Versace.

The timing is excellent, as the annual Atlanta Carnival, which is always a blast, is set for Saturday, May 28. The 2022 parade route starts East on Gartrell Street at 11:30 AM, goes up Jackson Street, turns on Highland Avenue and continues up Central Park PINE until it reaches its end point at Central Park. Get your fill of spicy Caribbean fare at the park before moving on to the next local attraction.
Casino and poker in Atlanta are limited, but if you’re really craving cards, you could watch the supercars cruise through while you play Ignition Casino & Poker on your mobile device. Every game and tournament is available on a phone or tablet!
Baseball fans can get some action during their trip to Atlanta, which is home of the 2021 World Series champion Braves. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday (May 27-28-29), the Braves are hosting the Miami Marlins at Truist Park for a three-game series. The stadium is just 10 miles northwest, between The Battery Atlanta and The Omni Hotel.
Of course, if you’re planning on going 100% Gumball for your time in Atlanta, you’ll be attending the exclusive events and shows put on by us, likely at Centennial Olympic Park. Keep checking in to catch the details as they come. You won’t want to miss the Atlanta edition of Gumball 3000.
